Support 4 dyslexia is helping me.
When I was coming to the end of primary school in year 5 me and my mum thought I was dyslexic so we went to find out whether I was or not and I am but I don’t mind because I had help from school but it didn’t help me so when my mum found out about Sarah we came and I had a talk with her I have been coming for about 8 weeks now and she has really helped me

My name is Terri and I am 14 years old, when I was in primary school I always felt a bit behind but all my teachers said I was fine, I felt I needed help but the teachers didn't give it to me. When I started my secondary school my mum mentioned to them that she thought I was behind everyone else, so they gave me test and they said or Terri is fine. my mum didn't believe them so my mum took me for a test and my reading was age 10 and a half and my spelling was 11 and a half, and I was 14. When I found this out I felt very upset because I was 2/3 years behind I cried. I went for dyslexic classes and I thought I was doing very well. 20 lessons later I had a test again to see if I had improved, and my reading has gone up to 12 and a half years (an increase by 2 years in the space of 20 lessons) I was very happy !.if my school had gave me a proper test they would have noticed I was dyslectic, and they could have helped me but I am glad they didn't because I love coming to the dyslexic club I have met a lot of new people. I used to be embarrassed to tell people I was dyslexic but now im not because I now know a lot of people who are dyslexic, and we are all special.

At my old school my head teacher said I was just I slow leaner. After a few years my parents thought I was dyslexic. At first I thought it was a disease I thought that all my friends will laugh at me, when I found out that I was dyslexic I started to cry because I just wanted to be normal But I`m not normal i`m special. Now I go to learning support three times a week and all my friends know i`m dyslexic and they don`t care.
I used to think that I was not good at anything but, if you think about it dyslexic children and Normal children are just the same!
If you are dyslexic don’t panic because they will be lots in your class and if your not good at maths or English you might be good at something else like I`m good at art.
At every school there is dyslexic children.
When you go up to high school and you have to do a language try your best because that’s all you can do.

HI
I’m Katy

Before I found out I was dyslexic I went to my old school, I used to go to a lady and I no they didn’t say it but it was for the thick ones and they used to teach use when we were in year 6 about once a day and they would teach you stuff you would learn about in year 3 and even though my old school did that they weren’t very supportive.

My nanny found a place were I could be assessed and it found out that I was dyslexic, and when I had my first assessment, I was 8 years old and I was reading and spelling at a 6 year old , so I went to some lessons.

When school found out that I was paying for lessons even though I was reading and writing at a 6 year old they said there were more people that needed it and it made me cry because it was like they didn’t care but that is because school don’t know enough.

When I went to high school because my school is massive and I have a different teacher for every lesson so they can’t tell them all and it is a thing I have to deal with and the lessons really help because you meat people who have dyslexia and teachers that now about it. My reading and spelling age is the same as me but I’m still slow at writing, but there is a lot more to dyslexia than just reading and writing difficulties.

When Courtney started lessons about two and a half years ago, she was in year 6 and her reading and spelling age was around 9 and a half. Since having lessons, her reading and spelling has improved and is almost at the level of her age. Her confidence has improved dramatically, she used to worry a lot about school but now she is much happier and has fewer headaches. Her memory is much better and her touch typing is lovely. Her self-esteem is much higher and she is more inquisitive. She never used to ask questions, but now she likes to know and understand things, she also puts her hand up more and has the confidence to participate in class discussions. She has a very active social life and lots of friends.
